Nasas Artemis I Launch Set To Make History
This quick recap of NASAs history in space exploration segueing to Artemis serves as the opening video for the launch broadcast for the agencys Artemis I mission. The broadcast originates from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where NASAs Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft will lift off from Launch Complex 39B no earlier than November 16 on a mission beyond the Moon and back to Earth.
NASA confirmed it remains on track for the launch of the Artemis I Moon mission during a two-hour launch window that opens at 1:04 a.m. EST on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
The launch countdownwill begin at 1:24 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14.
Artemis I is the first integrated flight test of NASAs Space Launch System rocket, an uncrewed Orion spacecraft, and the ground systems at the agencys Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mission will pave the way for a crewed test flight and future human lunar exploration as part of Artemis.
Following Hurricane Nicole, teams have conducted thorough assessments of the rocket, spacecraft, and associated ground systems and confirmed there were no significant impacts from the severe weather. The SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft arrived at Kennedys Launch Pad 39B on Nov. 4 and rode out the storm there.

Astronomers Found Remnants Of The Oldest Known Solar System

New research published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society has given us a glimpse at the remnants of the oldest known solar system weve ever discovered. According to the researchers, there is now evidence that this solar system once existed just 90 light-years away from Earth.

The research is built around the discovery of an ancient dead star, which is believed to have been born around 10.7 billion years ago . The corpse, now known as WDJ2147-4035 is one of two white dwarf stars believed to have inhabited the oldest known solar system we have discovered thus far.
The discovery was made while analyzing data from the European Space Agencys Gaia galaxy-mapping mission. These arent the first white dwarfs found to be accreting rubble, either. But they are the oldest and could provide new insights into how planets formed when the universe was much younger. And because the oldest known solar system is so close to Earth, it may be much easier to study.
The star at the center of this system was much more massive than our Sun, the researchers write in their study. But it wasnt massive enough to explode in a supernova when its life ended. Instead, it simply ran out of hydrogen and swelled up to become a red giant. From there, the outer layers were released to expose the core, turning it into a white dwarf.

Located at the centre of the solar system and influencing the motion of all the other bodies through its gravitational force is the Sun, which in itself contains more than 99 percent of the mass of the system. The planets, in order of their distance outward from the Sun, are Mercury, Venus, Earth, , Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Four planetsJupiter through Neptunehave ring systems, and all but Mercury and Venus have one or more moons. Pluto had been officially listed among the planets since it was discovered in 1930 orbiting beyond Neptune, but in 1992 an icy object was discovered still farther from the Sun than Pluto. Many other such discoveries followed, including an object named Eris that appears to be at least as large as Pluto. It became apparent that Pluto was simply one of the larger members of this new group of objects, collectively known as the Kuiper belt. Accordingly, in August 2006 the International Astronomical Union , the organization charged by the scientific community with classifying astronomical objects, voted to revoke Plutos planetary status and place it under a new classification called dwarf planet. A Model Based On A Classroom Globe
If the Earth were reduced to the size of a typical classroom globe, 41 cm in diameter, the Moon would be a 10 cm baseball floating 12 metres away. The Sun would be 14 stories tall ” rel=”nofollow”> Spaceship Earth ride at Epcot) floating 5 kilometres away. While a complete model to this scale has never been built, a Solar System built centered in Washington DC, London or Sydney, to that scale would look like this:

If the scale of the above model is increased to 1:310 000 000, i.e. all distances and sizes reduced by a factor of 10, then the Earth and Venus can be modeled by ping pong balls, the Moon and smaller planets by various size or lumps of modeling clay, the gas giants by balloons or larger playing balls, and a circle the diameter of the Sun can be drawn on the floor of most classrooms. The scale distance to Alpha Centauri would be 1/3 of the way to the Moon.
Some planetaria and related museums often use a scale model of the Solar System featuring a planetarium dome representing the Sun. Examples of this can be seen in planetaria like the Adler Planetarium, the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History, the Clark Planetarium, the Griffith Observatory, the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum, the Adventure Science Center, etc.

How Did The Solar System Form
Scientists have multiple theories that explain how the solar system formed. The favoured theory proposes that the solar system formed from a solar nebula, where the Sun was born out of a concentration of kinetic energy and heat at the centre, while debris rotating the nebula collided to create the planets.

There are eight planets in the solar system. The four inner terrestrial planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and , all of which consist mainly of rock. The four outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus, giant planets that consist mainly of either gases or ice. Pluto was considered the ninth planet until 2006, when the International Astronomical Union voted to classify Pluto as a dwarf planet instead.
