Nascar May Lean Electric

Portable Solar Hand Washing & Water Purification System | GoSun

According to documents leaked earlier this year, auto-racing giant NASCAR plans to debut a prototype electric vehicle ahead of its season-opening race in February 2023. This prototype, the documents suggest, will then be used in an EV racing series later in the year. The series would consist of two races lasting 30 minutes apiece, with no battery swaps or charging allowed. This information, although unconfirmed, would be in line with NASCARs previously stated plans to test out opportunities in the EV space. Amidst much pressure to move toward electric, NASCAR maintains that entertainment value for its fans is the top priority.

Disadvantages Of Solar Water Purifiers

Regardless of its vast benefits for household use, solar water purifiers come with certain challenges. The key challenge is that solar purifiers require constant and efficient solar radiation, which makes them dependent on weather conditions.

Also, solar water purifiers are effective against microbes and sediment but have a questionable effect on the chemical quality of the water.

Furthermore, solar purifiers require strong solar radiation and therefore are not suitable for the treatment of large volumes of water. This makes their use primarily focused on households rather than high-reach water treatment tools.

How We Got Here

In 2009, at the request of the Iraqi government, GSEL partner Mark Snyder designed, manufactured and deployed 325 solar powered water purification systems throughout Iraq. This helped stop an outbreak of cholera, providing clean water to hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens. You can see a news broadcast about this at right.

Fast forward to 2020. Mark has joined forces with Genesis Water Techologies, another GSEL partner.

Genesis is now producing the solar powered water purification system originally pioneered by Mark Snyder.

Genesis has added their vast knowledge of water treatment and water filtration to Marks equally broad expertise in solar power to produce this unmatched solution for water supply.

Importantly, Genesis has developed a unique solar powered system that uses Electrocoagulation to remove contaminants. Genesis also offers Ultra-Filtration systems that use Advanced Oxidation Process to remove impurities.

Electrocoagulation is a very versatile technology. While no one system can handle all variations in water quality, the Genesis solar powered electrocoagulation system can handle many of Nigerias water challenges. It has the potential to do the job of several treatments all at once. It can be optimized for specific contaminants for maximum effect.

Electrocoagulation has the added benefit of requiring no moving parts and minimal maintenance.

Quench Water & Solar Is Selling Its Solar

How to use a Solar Water Purifier and Sanitation System | GoSun

When WorldWater & Solar Technologies deploys its mobile water purifiersarrays of solar panels, batteries, and high-pressure pumpsthe machines usually wind up in natural-disaster zones, off-grid villages, or military operations around the world.

Now the company is expanding within the United States, where cities are grappling with contaminated water supplies and dwindling freshwater reserves. Quench Water & Solar lets entrepreneurs sell cleanand ideally cheapdrinking water to their neighbors, local businesses, and at large events like festivals, where plastic water bottles pour down like rain.

The water infrastructure throughout most of the U.S., and certainly way beyond, is very old…and municipalities dont have the wherewithal or the resources to be able to address these things, says David Hammes, president of Quench and vice president of international development at WorldWater. We see this as an opportunity to take our technology and really benefit people that are subject to contaminated water.

We can deploy it anywhere and literally take contaminated, poisoned water and turn it into drinking water in minutes, Hammes says.

But the mobile systems could provide communities an affordable alternative to the bounty of bottled water and home filters. With the Quench units, licensees could provide a gallon of drinking water at the cost of a fraction of a cent, Switzer says.

Solar Water Purifier Diy

There are several ways to build a solar water purifier yourself for your home

Solar water purifiers rely only on using sunlight. This fact makes them easy to produce and even suitable for DIY production at home.

You can find step by step instructions on how to build a DIY purifier by yourself in this link, using the following components:

  • Wood or sheet metal to build an enclosure about the size of a microwave

  • Reflective material like aluminium foil

  • A heat-absorbent black tray

What you need to do is first paint the outside of the purifier with black paint, as it is commonly known that the black paint attracts the sunlight and increases heat. Then, you need to glue the reflective aluminium surface onto the back and sidewalls of the purifier and glue foam insulation to the bottom.

The water tray needs to be placed inside the purifier and the sheet of glass should be placed on top.

Lastly, you must arrange the dripping part at the bottom where the purified water will be collected. The catch must be angled downward to a container such as a glass or a bottle.

Leave the purifier exposed to strong and direct sunlight for at least 6 hours, and your pure water should be ready for use.

MIT researchers have developed a portable desalination unit, weighing less than 10 kilograms, that can remove particles and salts to generate drinking water.

The suitcase-sized device, which requires less power to operate than a cell phone charger, can also be driven by a small, portable solar panel, which can be purchased online for around $50. It automatically generates drinking water that exceeds World Health Organization quality standards. The technology is packaged into a user-friendly device that runs with the push of one button.

Unlike other portable desalination units that require water to pass through filters, this device utilizes electrical power to remove particles from drinking water. Eliminating the need for replacement filters greatly reduces the long-term maintenance requirements.

Filter-free technology

The process removes both dissolved and suspended solids, allowing clean water to pass through the channel. Since it only requires a low-pressure pump, ICP uses less energy than other techniques.

Does A Solar Still Purify Water

Portable Solar Water Purificationi System

A solar still imitates the mechanisms used by nature to purify water, by using the energy from the sun.

The high heat produced from the solar energy evaporates the water, which then condenses to liquid. This residual condensated water is purified from sediment and the high heat, i.e. its UV radiation kills the germs and living organisms inside it.

As a result, you get water that is safe and can be used for drinking, hygiene and cooking.

Whats In The Drinking Water

Most properly-drilled wells provide water that is safe to drink, but it may not taste or smell good depending on where you live. Areas with a high-sulfur presence can cause well water to have a rotten egg smell, and high iron deposits can cause rust-colored water. Low pH levels cause well water to be slightly acidic, which slowly corrodes copper piping and causes blue stains on plumbing fixtures. Dissolved solids like calcium and magnesium are common in shallow-depth wells, and can cause scale formation under dripping faucets and can damage water heaters and coffee pots. Although there are a few exceptions, in general, most well water is still safe to drink even if it has one or more of the conditions just outlined. Regardless, any newly-drilled water well should be lab-tested and sanitized prior to use.

There are all types of water filters and water softeners available and each is designed to remove or correct one or more of the above water quality problems. Unfortunately, lakes and clear creek surface water may appear just as safe as well or city water, but can harbor all types of living organisms that can cause severe waterborne illnesses. Most harmful bacteria, parasites, viruses, cysts, and molds are microscopic in size and can easily pass straight through your typical off-the-shelf water filters.

Out With Red Tape In With The Fiber

Germany aims to triple the amount of fiber cable installed by the end of 2025, in an effort called Gigabitstrategie. One of the strategies the German government will use to accomplish this ambitious goal is to clear some of the red tape around fiber projects by the end of 2022. It plans to centralize the project-approval process, currently seen as a municipality-dependent bureaucratic nightmare, clearing the way for a massive ramp-up in construction in early 2023. The government also plans to use the innovative microtrenching technique to lay down fiber in narrow 5-centimeter-wide channels dug by the side of the road without interrupting traffic.

How Do Solar Purifiers Work

Solar Seawater Desalinator & Water Purifier Machine | Seawater to Drinking Water

Solar water purifiers work by using sunlight to change contaminated water into fresh-smelling, good-tasting and safe drinking water. There are many solar water purifiers on the market and they all work a little differently. What they all do, however, is collect water in some kind of covered bin. As the sunlight raises the temperature of the water, the water is vaporized and leaves the contaminants behind. The water goes through condensation under the glass or plastic cover and drops of water collect in a pure water channel. The drops are then delivered into a clean bin from which we can then drink clean water.

The SteriPEN for Outdoor Use.Hikers and campers know the benefits of a good water purifier. Lots of water purifiers require chemicals which, frankly, our bodies do not need more of. Solar water purifiers can provide people in the wilderness with clean drinking waters with something as simple as the SteriPEN. The SteriPEN is a portable water purifier that works by using ultraviolet light to kill waterborne microbes and pathogens.

  • What Is An Ultraviolet Filter

An ultraviolet filter is actually a sealed hollow tube or stainless steel container that allows pre-filtered water to flow from end to end while passing around a clear tube positioned down the center of this container. This clear tube houses an ultraviolet lamp. Some newer designs are starting to use LED lamps that produce ultraviolet light, but most larger units still use fluorescent tubes. The smaller capacity units typically use a lamp in the 13- to 25-watt range, while larger whole-house systems may require a 40-watt ultraviolet fluorescent lamp up to four feet long.

The purpose of the ultraviolet filter is to kill any living organisms that can cause waterborne diseases. An ultraviolet filter will not remove sediment, iron, heavy metals, chlorine, radon, arsenic, or bad taste, so these problems must be addressed by other pre-filter media. All ultraviolet light water filters must be used in addition to sediment pre-filters and carbon filters. For basic fresh water needs, some manufacturers are now making self-contained portable units that fit in a small suitcase-size package. Be sure to select an ultraviolet filter sized for the intended flow-rate and capacity of your water supply. A fast water flow may not allow the water enough illumination time before exiting the ultraviolet light filter if it is undersized or the lamp wattage is too low.
