Normally, pumps are designed to run a little below their power rating, so I would expect such a pump to run comfortably at 500 watts.

So could you use 500 watts of solar panel to power it? Maybe, maybe not!

Pumps experience increased load when starting, call inrush or surge current, which can be several times more than its running current.

You could use 600 or 700 watts solar for a 1HP pump if you also used a battery to act as an energy storage reservoir to supply the extra current.

    Thats pretty nice description. Now, I have a house that is yet to be constructed and I dont know my average electricity consumption but I know that I will be running 3-4 fans, for almost all the time in summer, 8 20 watt tube lights for about 4 hrs, 1 geyser for about 2 hr in winters and some 3-4 10-12 watt LED bulbs in lawn for about 3 hrs all through the year. ACs wont be there. And add a 50 inch TV running for say 8 hrs a day apart from charging my laptops, phones etc. how many solar panels I will need with no dependency on government supply?

    If the electric furnace uses 1.5 kW of power per hour, you will have to use enough solar panels to provide at least as much power.5 x 300-watt solar panels will give you 1500-watts, and 4×400-watt will give you 1600-watts.

    This will work well in summer when you have plenty of sunshine, but electric furnaces are used in winter to produce heat. Then we do not have as much sunshine and the sunshine that there is lesser intensity.

    You will also have days of autonomy where the solar panels will have no output, and you will have to rely solely on battery power for the electric furnace.
