Compatible Portable Power Stations

You should be able to use this on any of the EcoFlow power stations. However, not all can support 400W, and some can support enough to handle multiple 400W panels:

• DELTA Max 2000 and 1600: 800WDELTA Mini: 300W

In the UK, Jackery only has the 100W solar panel, and this is £272.99. None of the Jackery power stations can support 400W solar. In the US, they have the $699 SolarSaga 200W and the Explorer 2000 Pro can handle 6x200W panels, and the Explorer 1000 Pro can handle 4x200W panels.

Bluetti has the PV350 350W Solar Panel, which is about £900. Or the PV200W panel for £499

ALLPOWERS has a 200W panel for £300, which is about the most cost-efficient model I can find.

How Do I Check The Status Of My Order

How To Set Up And Use The Ecoflow 400w Solar Panel

The EcoFlow solar panel comes wrapped in its carrying bag. When using the solar panel when the sun is highest between 10am and 2pm, you can just remove it from the carrying bag and lay it flat on the ground for maximum sun exposure. Before and after midday, use the kickstand setup seen above.

However, setting up the kickstand isn’t as easy as pulling off a velcro tab. Instead, here’s what we thought was the easiest way to set up the solar panel with its kickstand.

• Lay the bag flat on the ground with the soft side down. The short zippered end of the bag should be facing in the direction of the sun, as this is the direction the solar panel will be facing .
• Unzip the bag and fold the hard side back.
• Now hook the four carabiners into the carrying bag’s loops, as pictured below. We didn’t remove the carabiners when we took down the panel.

• Next, unfold the solar panel and center it on the soft side of the carrying bag. The solar cells should be facing up, and the panel should cross the carrying bag perpendicular other than that, the orientation doesn’t matter.
• Hook the carabiners of the long loops into the two nearest grommets of the solar panel.
• Now lift the solar panel up and also lift the hard side of the carrying bag, so you can snap the carabiners into the nearest grommets on the top side of the panel. This is where help from a second person might come in handy.

Running Multiple Solar Panels Parallel Vs Series

I haven’t tested running multiple solar panels as my DELTA 2 can only handle 500W, and you should ideally match up the solar panels.

However, if you have a DELTA MAX, you can run two panels, or the DELTA Pro can go up to 1600W with four of these panels.

EcoFlow has a useful video on how to connect the panels up in either parallel or series.

The way you connect them is important. EcoFlow recommends not to use parallel because this doubles the current with two panels, and the solar input is limited to between 10A and 15A depending on the model you use . The 400W panel provides 11A running two in parallel will work, but the power station won’t charge as fast. This is also why you should match up solar panels, as you need the current to be the same, and it will often vary between models.

In series, it is the voltage that increases. The 400W panel provides 48V, and the DELTA Pro can handle 150V, or the Max can handle 100V. The DELTA 2 can only do 60V, but it would be excessive to run two 400W panels with this .

Should You Buy The Ecoflow 400w Solar Panel

The EcoFlow 400W solar panel is one of the most powerful portable solar panels on the market today. The panel is sleek, functional, and fairly easy to set up. We also liked its low-waste packaging.

Thanks to its foldable design, the EcoFlow 400W solar panel remains portable, though it’s rather heavy and somewhat floppy. As mentioned above, we had trouble keeping it from bending when setting it up using the carrying bag as a kickstand. While you can secure it using the grommets along its upper and lower edges, we recommend mounting it on a solid support structure. However, if you’re looking for a truly portable unit to use in all kinds of weather, including windy conditions, this panel might not be the best option. You could opt for connecting several smaller EcoFlow solar panels or invest in a more rigid panel from a different manufacturer.

At around $3 per watt, the EcoFlow 400W solar panel isn’t the cheapest panel you can get, and you’ll pay extra for adapters if you need them. And if you can believe EcoFlow, the panel will likely top out at 350W, so it’s more like $3.43 per watt. The $3 per-watt price point is similar to the Jackery Solar Saga 100, but that’s a much smaller and hence more flexible 100W panel. If you have the space and don’t need something ultra portable, you could consider the FlexSolar 200W briefcase solar panel instead, which costs approximately $1.85 per watt. The FlexSolar even comes with a selection of cables and a solar charge controller included.

How Much Sun Do Solar Panels Need

Solar panels need direct sunlight to produce the maximum solar output. To maximize the sunlight the solar panels receive, face the panels in a southward direction and install them in an area where they are not shaded by trees or other obstructions.

Just a small amount of shade on a solar panel can affect its power output. Your solar panel cells are connected in a series string, meaning that any cell thats affected by shade can weaken the other cell panels, reducing the overall power level. Before you go solar, youll want to check that you have an area for your solar panel with minimal or no shading , or use a string inverter with MPPT to minimize output loses associated with partial shading.

A few weeks ago, I reviewed the amazing EcoFlow DELTA 2 portable power station. It is probably the best option on the market if you want something in the 1 kWh range. The new LiFePO4 battery is perfect for people that use a power station extensively, it should last several years without battery capacity degrading much.

It also supports up to 500W solar charging, and in theory, for some small off-grid living scenarios, it could be a self-sufficient form of power .

EcoFlow conveniently does a 400W solar panel, it is their top-of-the-range model, and as far as I can tell, it is the largest portable solar panel on the market. At £999, it is certainly not cheap, but if you spend a lot of time away off grid then this will not only save you money but also allow you to remain off grid as much as possible without having to plan your life around charging your power station.
