Lets talk about what they have in common first. Both cameras have 1080p HD video display, infrared night vision, two-way audio, and integrations with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. But the Nest Cam Outdoor, unlike the Ring Spotlight Cam Battery, has the ability to zoom in eight times, compared to zero, an integration with Philips Hue lightbulbs, and, if you purchase Nest Aware, person detection.

Whats New With Ring Cameras
This new Ring Spotlight camera has a couple of improvements over my original for starters its got a Dual-LED spotlight in the front face of the camera unit for added lighting which should mean more security.
This camera also has a now-removable rechargeable battery which you can use as your primary power source . Of course you can also add the optional Ring Solar Panel, which is a great way to keep your camera operational all the time.
It might be worth keeping in mind that the older solar panel and Ring cameras have different hook-ups so you cant use an older model Solar Panel with a newer camera.

The new Ring Spotlight Cam camera comes with a better mounting bracket thats now a whole lot easier to adjust.
Wider field of view

Overall Ive been a big lover of Ring devices. I will note that I had some recent troubles with the Ring app with my devices not connecting properly or falling offline, or showing alerts as video not available but this seems to be less of an issue than it was previously.
Downsides? Im having a hard time finding any the offline notifications do happen from time to time but the video quality is great, the cameras are easy to set up and access and you can configure your whole home system in so many ways to give you the peace of mind youre looking for. I know some folks are disappointed that without anteing up for Ring Protect you cant get your videos, not even from a few days prior, but thats the reality of most remote security systems today they all want you to pay a fee for that cloud recording.
I can definitely recommend Ring Spotlight Cam as a way to increase your homes security and keep watch over your house.

Ring Stick Up Camera Installation
These pictures give you a small insight into my temporary set up. I did it this way to test the camera angle and placement before securely fixing it to the soffit.
If youre thinking that someone can just come, grab it and take it away, youre right but Ring has built-in two security screws which fixes it to its base and secures the battery compartment. These screws are included in the box and are easily fitted. While it might not stop someone ripping it from its spot, it will definitely slow someone down who may try, or simply to try tamper with it to disable it i.e youll have warning itls happening.
I dont like screwing holes in the outside of houses so Ill be mounting mine, at least to start, with double-sided outdoor 3m tape.
This installation is a temporary mash together job Ive done which works fine but I wanted to test it before finally mounting. The wiring looks terrible but Ill make it pretty in the end.

A good but not perfect camera which lets down top quality product design and brilliant software with a merely adequate 1080P camera, no local storage and slightly disappointing wi-fi. Great features like battery-backed continuous power, a cool timelapse-like playback option and tamper-proof setup still make this an appealing camera, but unless youre a Ring user already there are better choices.

As you can see if you watch my video review, or from the photos, the video is sharp and easy to watch. As far as Im concerned, its high quality day or night. The LED lighting is also quite bright, and lights up the area around it really well, plus that extra light improves the overall video picture.
