Are Solar Panels Worth It For Florida Power & Light Customers
Yes. With the 26% Federal solar tax credit, and available sales and property tax exemptions available in Florida, home solar panels deserve your attention as a worthy investment as a Florida Power & Light customer. FPLs excess solar generation rate rider also allows you to get full credit on your power bill for the excess solar electricity your panels produce which you cant use onsite. Your credits accrue at the same rate you pay for electricity, and roll over to the next months bill.
What Factors Affect The Price Of Solar Panels For Florida Power & Light Customers
The cost of installing solar panels will vary with brands of solar panels and inverters you choose and also theinstallation company you choose to install them.
It is common to see really good systems, using quality brands of equipment, being sold for around$2.60 per watt or $18,137 for a standard 9.44 kW solar system after the customer claims the 26% federalsolar tax credit.

How Does Fpls Net Metering Program Work
FPL has what is called a full retail net metering program for customers who go solar. With full retail net metering, every kilowatt-hour of solar energy a solar panel produces will be worth the same amount of money that your utility charges you for electricity. Lets say FPL charges $0.07 per kWh of electricity, every kWh of solar electricity would also be worth $0.07.
Check out solar expert Will White explain net metering to get a better idea of how it works:
When youre approved for FPLs net metering program, FPL installs something called a bi-directional meter at your house. The bi-directional meter tracks how much electricity you send and take from the grid, so you can be compensated for your solar energy.
If your solar system produces more electricity than your home needs, the solar electricity will be sent to the grid, the bi-directional meter will spin backward, and youll receive a credit on your electric bill. These credits can then be used to offset the cost of electricity you use from the grid in the future.
At the end of the month, FPL will net how much solar electricity you sent to the grid versus how much electricity you used from the grid to find your total bill. If you produced more electricity than you used from the grid, any excess net metering credits will carry over to the following month.

How Much Can I Reduce My Duke Energy Florida Bill By Switching To A Different Rate Plan
For some people, the savings from switching rate plans may only be a few dollars per month, but for many it canbe $20-$100 per month. Thats between $240 and $1,200 that you may now be paying to Duke Energy Florida eachyear for no reason.
Finding out whats available to you is as simple as a phone call or email to Duke Energy Florida. Even a smallsavings can be worth it.
How Many Batteries Do I Need To Go Off
To go completely off-grid, you need as much solar power battery storage as can safely last you for the time between sunset and sunrise on a winter day. An average home in the USA uses around 909kWH of electricity per month. Also, an average North Carolina residential electric bill comes for some 1,098 kWh per month, so you should have some 30kWh of batteries installed to ensure you have enough even during the cloudy days in the winter. There are various factors to consider when thinking of battery storage set up to go off-grid, such as the orientation of your house, the appliances you have, hours of sunlight and your habits. The best thing to do is to contact a solar advisor and schedule a consultation with them. Comparing quotes is always a good idea with large purchases.

Florida Senate Approves Controversial Fpl Solar Plan
Pointing to issues such as expanding renewable energy, state regulators Tuesday approved a $1.8 billion plan by Florida Power & Light to add 20 solar-power plants by the middle of next year.
The Florida Public Service Commissions decision came after its staff recommended rejecting the utilitys SolarTogether program because of the way it is structured. The plan also drew opposition from the state Office of Public Counsel, which represents consumers in utility issues.
But commissioners said the program, which involves adding a total of 1,490 megawatts of solar capacity, will expand renewable energy and reduce the states reliance on fossil fuels to generate electricity. FPL had backing from Walmart, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and Vote Solar, after reaching an agreement with the retailer and the solar-advocacy groups last year.
The commission approved the settlement agreement because this unique solar program is in the public interest of the state of Florida and offers FPL customers the opportunity to advance renewable energy in Florida, commission Chairman Gary Clark said in a prepared statement after the vote. The new solar additions will serve to reduce the risk of higher fuel and emissions costs for all FPL ratepayers.
But commission members Julie Brown and Andrew Fay on Tuesday disputed that the plan would offer an undue preference to customers who participate in the program.

Sun Shines On Fpls Solar Program
Florida provides a wealth of opportunity for utilities building a solar power portfolio, and Florida Power & Light has taken a lead role with its dozens of solar energy centers.
Power generation companies are continually looking for ways to make their operations more cost-effective, in part by seeking out investments that will bolster the bottom line while maintaining their commitment to provide customers with reliable electricity. Many of those utilities want to take advantage of renewable energy resources, making cleaner energy a larger piece of their generation portfolio.
Florida Power & Light , a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Inc. that provides power for more than 11 million Floridians, has taken a lead role in providing solar power across much of the state, building dozens of utility-scale arrays, and working with businesses and homeowners in support of rooftop solar systems. FPL in 2019 announced its 30-by-30 plan, a program in which the utility pledged to install 30 million solar panels by 2030. FPL in June of this year said the program was more than 40% complete after just two years, with 42 solar energy centers in operation, including the Discovery Solar Energy Center at Kennedy Space Center.

FPLs goal is to install 30 million solar panels by 2030, making Florida a world leader in solar energy.

Florida Power and Light offers a solar rebate and all of the utilities governed by the state utilities commission offer net metering. Under the law they must credit customers for net excess generation in a month. If, over a 12-month period, they generate more power than they use, the utility must pay them.
The Legislation Would Let Utilities Like Fpl Charge Its Solar Customers A Variety Of Punitive Fees Including Grid Access Fees And Monthly Minimum Bills
After imposing a record rate increase for electricity, Florida Power & Light is now moving to deny average Floridians the ability to reduce or escape these higher costs by producing their own energy from rooftop solar systems.
The legislation, which is rapidly moving through the Florida Legislature, would make it much less economical for residents to generate their own power from solar.
If passed, Senate Bill 1024 and House Bill 741 would allow Florida utilities to stop paying fair market value for the excess energy that customers with rooftop solar systems send back to the grid. The legislation would also let utilities like FPL charge these customers a variety of punitive fees, including grid access fees and monthly minimum bills.
These identical bills, which were drafted by FPL and hand delivered to Republican Sen. Jennifer Bradley of Fleming Island and Republican Rep. Lawrence McClure of Plant City, undermine basic free-market principles and erode the liberty of every Floridian.
Already protected from free market competition as a monopoly with a captive customer base, FPL is moving to stomp out the last vestige of free-market energy in Florida home and business owners who utilize rooftop solar.
In addition, FPLs legislation would impede the freedom of middle-income Florida residents who want to install solar systems to become more energy independent. This is completely in opposition to conservative and libertarian values.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Florida calls itself the Sunshine State. But when it comes to the use of solar power, it trails 19 states, including not-so-sunny Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Maryland.
Solar experts and environmentalists blame the states utilities.
The utilities have hindered potential rivals seeking to offer residential solar power. They have spent tens of millions of dollars on lobbying, ad campaigns and political contributions. And when homeowners purchase solar equipment, the utilities have delayed connecting the systems for months.
Solar energy is widely considered an essential part of addressing climate change by weaning the electric grid from fossil fuels. California, a clean energy trendsetter, last year became the first state to require solar power for all new homes.
But many utilities across the country have fought homeowners efforts to install solar panels. The industrys trade organization, the Edison Electric Institute, has warned that the technology threatens the foundation of the power companies business.
