You can check the user manual to find out how your power bank indicates it has been fully charged, but most of them have some sort of light that shows the amount of power left in the battery.

The amount of time it takes for a power bank to reach its full capacity varies depending on the type. A heavy-duty power bank will take longer to charge than a smaller one. Generally speaking, it takes between 1 to 2 hours for a power bank to become fully charged!

As it will start getting too complicated when factoring in shade and cloud I will just assume you have access to constant direct sunlight.

Solar power banks also come in many different shapes and sizes. This will affect the charging time because the size of the battery varies.

The capacity of the battery is measured in milliampere-hours . You will see this in the description of the product before you buy it. It can vary from a few 2000mAh to 15,000mAh or more.

So I could give you lots of equations here allowing you to calculate the exact time it would take to fully charge your solar power bank, factoring in shade and sunlight intensity but I dont think that would be very useful.

The reality is that most manufacturers actually advise against trying to fully charge your solar power bank using the sun alone. The small panel can only generate so much power, even when in full sunlight and most power banks now have a very high battery capacity.

Below are a few examples of solar power banks and charging times in the sun estimated from manufacturers and user feedback:

Once your solar power bank is fully charged, youll want to charge your device with it.

You can do this by connecting the USB end of your charger to the power bank, and inserting the other end into your device.

Most power banks have multiple USB ports for charging many devices at once, look out for these ports on the front of your solar power bank.

Something to take into consideration is the Amp output of your charging ports. Make sure that the ports you charge your smartphone with are only 1 amp.

Charging your smartphone with 2 amps may damage the battery life over time as its too fast for phones. Read the user manual to find this information out.

How To Maintain A Solar Power Bank

Solar power banks don’t require much maintenance beyond taking good care of it.

Be careful not to drop it or hit it against objects especially if you travel often with the power bank. If the power bank did not come with a travel case, consider getting one.

Also be careful about exposing the power bank and solar charger to rain, snow, and extreme temperatures. These elements can damage the integrated solar panel or the power bank itself.

Can I Use My Phone While Charging On Power Bank

You are able to use your phone whilst charging your solar power bank.

However, doing this generally results in the battery being inline with the smartphone. This causes a higher power draw which leads to excessive heating which could damage your battery.

This is not recommended. Only do it if absolutely necessary.
