How Long Does The Tough Solar Battery Keep Its Charge

Casio G Shock GW 3500 B – 1A Mens Black Tough Solar Atomic Watch Review

Once fully charged, the tough solar battery will last you roughly 9-10 months without further exposure to daylight. Just to be clear, I’m talking about the watch being in complete darkness for the entire period. For example, if you keep the watch on your desk, the battery will charge from the light and the watch will keep ticking.

Tough Solar Battery Charge Time

The batterycharge time varies from model to model. My GWM5610-1 takes me around 2-3 weeks of outdoors wear to get from “low” to “medium” and around 7 days to get from “medium” to “high”.

However, this will vary on your specific model. If you want the specific charge times, look at the back cover of your watch and find the three- or four-digit âmodule numberâ. Then head on over here to find the standard charging time based on your module number.

Final Word: There Is No Best G

So here’s the thing with G-Shocks:

They’re all good but in a different way.

There’s no point comparing the $50 DW-9052 to a $200 GW-9400 Rangeman or a $300 G-STEEL.

Every model has its pros and cons. So the best G-Shock watch for you will depend on what you need it for.

That’s why we included a wide range of G-Shock models with different features and styles to help you find the best G-Shock watch that fits your needs.

Tough Solar Vs Regular G

Financially speaking, the difference is between solar and non-solar G-Shocks insignificant. A new solar battery will cost you about $25, and you’ll need one every 12 years or so. A regular G-Shock will need a new battery every 5 years or so, and those are cheaper than solar ones . So financially, you don’t win much by getting a solar G-Shock.

For me though, solar G-Shocks are worth it over regular G-Shocks and here’s why. On the one hand, you have the extreme ruggedness and reliability of a G-Shock. You’re paying a little extra over a regular G-Shock, but you’re getting a battery that will basically never run out .

But there’s also a certain sense of satisfaction I get when I’m wearing my Solar G-Shock. There’s just something cool about wearing a tiny, solar-powered timekeeping module – a real marvel of engineering – on my wrist. It’s the kind of satisfaction that only a solar-powered G-Shock will give you, and for me, it’s well worth it the extra money.

How Long Does The G

Casio G

Your G-Shock’s Tough Solar battery won’t last forever. While this will vary from model to model, the battery will gradually stop holding the charge.

The short answer is that your Tough Solar G-Shock’s battery will last for anywhere from 9 to 15 years before you have to get a new one, depending on how you use it. Specifically how long it will last comes down entirely to how you use the watch. If you use the battery-intensive functions a lot – e.g. compass and altimeter – your solar battery might last less.

  • After5 to 7 years of use, you can expect it to be weaker and last ~6 months instead of the regular 9 on a single charge.
  • After10 to 15 years of use, you’ll have to change the battery.

But let’s face it: 10-15 years on a single tiny battery is one heck of a good deal. In fact, chances are you’ll lose your watch before the time comes to change the battery.

And if not, changing the battery is easy and cheap.

Do Tough Solar Watches Need Servicing

Tough Solar G-Shocks only need servicing every 12 years or so, when you change their battery. Other than that, it needs zero servicing. Unless you manage to break something important inside the watch, that is, but even in that case it will probably be easier for you just to buy a new one. Solar and Quartz watches donât need servicing like automatic and mechanical watches do.

Are Solar Watches Better Than Automatic

Yes, solar watches are more accurate and reliable than automatic watches, and they require servicing only once in every 12-15 years for changing the battery. Compared to solar watches, automatic watches are inaccurate , need regular servicing, and the small parts inside the watch are more likely to break. Objectively, the solar movement is better than automatic in every way .

A Few Words About The Price Of Tough Solar G

Finally, Tough Solar G-Shocks are cheap these days.

Here’s some perspective.

Back in the day, Casio used to put Tough Solar only in their elite “Master of G” line.

Only the most expensive, cutting-edge G-Shocks had this technology. If you wanted a tough solar G-Shock, $200 was the cheapest that you could expect to pay.

Fast forward to today… and you can get yourself Tough Solar G-Shock for less than $100… with multi-band 6 atomic timekeeping module packed in on top of it.

Its The Toughest Watch In The World

G-Shock is also the toughest watch in the world according to the Guinness Book of World record. The test involved driving a truck over the basic G-Shock DW-5600 model. The watch survived and has since held the title of the toughest watch in the world. Not bad for a cheap sub-$50 beater, eh?

We’ve also tested other brands who claim to make tough watches , and they just didn’t measure up to G-Shock in durability, features, and affordability.

What Is Multi Band 6 Technology

Multi Band 6 technology has a name that sounds far more complicated than it is. A G-Shock watch that has Multi Band 6 technology will sync daily with a distribution transmitter that broadcasts a signal to determine what the time is. The time that these transmitters broadcast is based on the time given by an atomic clock.

This radio signal is broadcast in 6 different locations around the world. There are transmitters in Japan, the USA, the UK, China, and Germany. This means that these transmitters cover the whole of Japan, the USA, the UK, and a significant portion of China and Europe.

Your G-Shock watch picks up the transmission is during the night, and it will receive reception regardless of where you are located, even if youre in the center of a built-up city. If the G-Shock has GPS, then it will automatically identify that you have moved into a new time-zone, but without GPS, then you need to change the time-zone on the watch.

An atomic clock is the most accurate form of timekeeping in the world. That means that, if your G-Shock has Multi Band 6 technology so that an atomic clock determines the time, then it will deliver the most accurate and reliable timekeeping that it is possible to get.

What About Second

Of course, Multi Band 6 technology was only introduced to G-Shock watches in 2008, when it was included in the GW-9200 Riseman watch. Before Multi Band 6, there was Multi Band 5 technology. The reason for the 5 rather than the 6 was simply that there was one less signal transmitter at that point. But after another one was added in China, then Multi Band 5 turned into Multi Band 6. If you purchase and old G-Shock that has Multi Band 5 technology, then you can be sure that it is also atomic.

How Does The G

The basic construction is simple. There is a small solar panel inside the face of the Tough Solar G-Shocks. The panel uses daylight to charge the battery inside of the watch.

G-Shocks with solar don’t need direct sunlightto charge. Even if you work underground or mostly indoors, the light coming from the lamps will be enough to keep the battery going. So it’s not only the sunlight that charges the battery.

This makes G-Shocks with solar extremely versatile, as exposure to daylight is enough to keep the battery full.

Which G

  • James Hampton-Smith

Ever since Casio released the very first G-Shock back in 1983, this watch line has been popular around the world. There are plenty of good reasons why so many people love having a G-Shock wrapped around their wrists. Firstly, they look good. Secondly, they are resistant to mechanical shock and vibration. And thirdly, they are loaded with lots of great features, such as 200m water resistance and an electroluminescent backlight.

But a G-Shock is a watch above all else. And a watch needs to be able to tell perfect time. The reason why so many G-Shocks tell such good time is because they feature Multi Band 6 technology.

And every G-Shock that includes Multi Band 6 technology can be described as being atomic. Before we work out which G-Shocks have this technology, lets figure out what this technology is, and why everyone desires it.
