Essential Oils Spray An Aromatic Natural Horse Fly Spray

PineSol & Vinegar ð²ð¿ðð?ð½ Do they work together as a cleaning product? YES!!!

If you are wonderingwhat repels flies, keep in mind that the more aromatic something is, the more a fly might be confused and go away and look for something that smells more familiar.

The essential oils in this homemade fly spray for horses create that aromatic confusion, especially the peppermint oil and lavender oil.

First, make sure that your horse is comfortable with the scents and does not have any reaction by conducting a patch test either with the fly spray or with diluted essential oils.

  • 25 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 20 drops lavender essential oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

To make this natural fly killer spray, combine the ingredients in a 32 oz. spray bottle. This natural horse fly spray will help mask your animals scent and keep the flies away.

Youll want to give the spray bottle a quick shake each time you use it. Refrain from adding tea tree oil to a fly repellent.

Many animals are allergic to or have reactions to tea tree oil. While tea tree oil can be beneficial, especially in a medicinal capacity, make sure you talk with your vet before adding tea tree oil to any fly spray.

Be Careful With Citronella Oil

Many online homemade remedies for flies contain citronella oil. Horses tend to have a painful reaction to citronella essential oils, including swelling and blisters, and will often get sunburns because the oil reacts to the sunlight. Talk to your vet before using this oil on your horse.

Even if you keep your horse meticulously groomed and muck out their stable every day, relentless horse flies will still torment your poor pet. Hopefully, the various easy and natural fly repellent recipes listed in this article gave you some ideas on how to help maintain a healthy stable.

No matter which one you pick, make sure you talk with your vet before using a homemade fly spray. The last thing you want to do is cause your horse any pain or discomfort.

Premisis Spray W/pine Sol Revisited

So here in Illinois we have had a wet spring & summer. The flies and mosquitoes are HORRIBLE! We use the fly predators and increased our allotment but still its miserable! So today I bought a 1 gallon tank sprayer, a large bottle of lemon pine sol and a gallon of white vinegar. Mixed it up 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 water and sprayed the interior of each stall – NO FLIES! I also sprayed it right on a group of flies that were congregating on some grain & beet pulp soup dropped by the 32 yr old toothless wonder – they fell dead! I swept them up with the spilt grain and tossed them out!

Way Cool.

So does the Pine-sol have to be lemon or will any flavor do? Im assuming it must be real Pine-sol and not a generic.

Ive mixed Pinesol, white vinegar, and SSS, 1/3 each, then a little citronella, as fly spray for years after my old farrier swore by it.

Every once and a while I try the chemical fly spray, and its not 1/2 as good as my mix.

I ran out of vinegar and the barn and used only SSS for the past 2 days. Smells great and works well for the horses.

Never thought about a big sprayer. I am SO doing that. The flies are horrible thanks to the monsoon rains.

Ill have to try it. Twice a year I wash my barn and run-in down with pinesol and weekly I scrub my cement aisle with it. It really makes the barn fresh.

For those who use this on their animalsis the pinesol harsh on their coats? Is it safe to use on animals?

Interesting will have to try this!
