What Does A Baby Led Weaning Meal Look Like For Months 7 And 8

Until a baby is closer to 9 months and is able to pick up smaller pieces of foods, but after they have gotten the hang of one food at a time, I try to offer 1-2 foods they can feed themselves and one puree. A. The best way to deal with common food allergens, such as peanut products, eggs, soy and fish, is to introduce them to your child early: around 4 to 6 months. Feel free to offer these foods to your child if:

  • Its not a choking risk.

While babies can be introduced to many exciting new foods, there are a few things youll want to avoid giving your baby.

  • Foods that cause allergic reactions in your baby should be avoided. If you suspect an allergic reaction, talk to your doctor.
  • Rice cereal should be given in limited quantities due to arsenic risks.
  • Honey should not be given to any child under age 1 due to risks of botulism.
  • Any food that can cause choking or become lodged inside of babys throat should be avoided, such as nuts, grapes, etc. Instead, stick with a pureed/liquid consistency.
  • Brands of rice milk such as Rice Dream says to avoid giving to children under age 5.
  • Fruit juice should be avoided in children under age 1.
  • Unpasteurized food and drinks should be avoided in young children.
  • Cows milk should be avoided for children under age 1.
  • Sugary candies, sodas, etc. should be avoided until around age 2.
  • Processed or aged meats should also be avoided.

How To Make Salmon Baby Food Puree

I used grilled salmon as that is what I had on hand, but any cooked salmon would work. Place 1/4 cup of cooked salmon along with 1 cup of cooked sweet potato or squash into a blender and puree for 1-2 minutes, adding 1/4 cup of liquids until smooth. You can use any fruit or veggie your baby prefers in this recipe. Adding another veggie to the puree also helps the salmon blend into a nice, smooth puree.

Can You Mix Baby Led Weaning And Purees

Absolutely! I think its a great idea to mix the two methods simply because it gives you many more options for foods and allows the baby to experience more textures. I recommend allowing babies to feed themselves preloaded spoonsso you put the puree on a spoon, then hand it to them to actually put the spoon into their mouthso they still have control over what goes into their mouths.

TIP: Feeding some purees is also helpful if youll be sending food with a baby to daycare since the care provider may not have experience with blw.

After meats and alternatives you can move on to fruits and vegetables which will give your baby added vitamins, minerals and fiber. It’s recommended that you start with vegetables prior to starting fruit, so they don’t develop a preference for fruit which tends to be sweeter.

When you start introducing solids, breastmilk or infant formula should still be the main source of your babys nutrition. Over the next few months, your baby will start having more solids and less milk or formula. The rate that this happens will vary.
