How Do I Prepare For My Inspection
After installation, you will be contacted to complete a final building inspection.
- Contact us if work has been done to your home since you installed your system.
- Ensure no other contractors or workers are on site during your solar inspection.
- Clear your driveway and provide safe access to your electrical panel.
- Ensure someone 18 years or older is home during the inspection.
- Keep any pets and children away from the inspection area for their safety.
Types Of Electricity Rate Plans
The following examples are some of the most common rate plan structures throughout our service territories and are intended to serve as a general guide please check with your utility for details:
- Fixed Rate PlanPay the same fixed rate per unit of energy, no matter how much energy is consumed or at what time of day.
- Tiered Rate PlanYour energy rate increases in set tiers as you use more energy. Using less energy from the grid by installing solar may significantly reduce your costs by keeping you in lower, less expensive tiers.
- Time-of-Use PlanEnergy rates vary based on the time of day, day of the week and/or the season that energy is being used . You can save money by limiting your energy consumption from the grid to times that are outside of peak pricing hours. Additionally, your system is installed with Powerwall to store solar energy to use later during peak pricing periods. Using Time-Based Control, Powerwall can be set so that you use your stored energy during peak times so that you are primarily consuming energy from the grid when it is the cheapest.
- Electric Vehicle Base PlansThese plans will vary based on the number of energy meters you have in your home.
If you have one meter for both electric vehicle charging and home energy use, your rate will often depend on the time of day energy is used. In this case, you pay less by charging your vehicle and using energy during off-peak hours.

The next step is to get approval from your local utility to activate your Tesla energy products. Your Tesla Advisor will contact you directly to obtain this information as needed.

You may decide to list the assumption of the solar agreement as a contingency which can help to ensure a smooth process. Consider inquiring about the lender your potential buyer has chosen and whether they will mortgage a property with an existing solar agreement.
If the system is owned by you:
If you have purchased your panels with cash or have secured funding with a third-party lender, you do not need to transfer the contract. The warranties remain with the solar system and automatically transfer. Once your home is sold, reach out to the Property & Title team, provide them with the newly recorded deed and Tesla will update the account owner.

What Will My New Utility Cost Be
After Tesla installs your solar system, customers that were grid-connected will remain connected to the grid and continue to have the same account with their electric utility provider. Your rate plan may change post-installation as required by your utility provider.

Do I Need To Be Home During Installation
Someone must be home for the first hour of the installation to ensure proper access to the site. Depending on your home, additional site access may be required as the installation progresses. If additional site access is required, our Crew Lead will coordinate with you to ensure someone is home.

How Can I Make Powerwall Mode Changes
Powerwall is configured to meet your homes specific energy needs. Use the Tesla app to monitor and manage your solar systems performance with features and control modes such as Backup Reserve, Self-Powered and Time-Based Control.
After installation, Tesla solar systems with at least one Powerwall+ will be configured to Self-Consumption Only mode, producing only enough energy needed to power your home and charge your Powerwall. When temperatures are below freezing, Preconditioning is enabled, heating your Powerwall to improve operation and charging performance.

How Does Net Energy Metering Billing Work
As a PG& E solar and renewable energy customer, you are enrolled in the NEM program to monitor both your solar energy production and homes consumption. PG& E installs a specially programmed net meter to measure the net energythe difference between the energy produced by your renewable generating system and the amount of electricity supplied by PG& E. Each month you pay only for your monthly minimum delivery charges and any gas charges. Your meter is read monthly, and the net energy usage during each billing period appears as either a credit or a charge on your NEM statement. These credits and any charges are carried forward month to month for 12 billing months. The final amount is reconciled on your annual True-Up statement.

The initial pricing in the Design Studio is standard and may not reflect all the details of your Solar Roof or solar panel system. Your final contract price will be determined when your layout is presented. If pricing changes, Tesla will present you with an updated Price Sheet in your Tesla Account for your signature.

What Is The Annual True
As a Private rooftop solar customer, you will receive your annual True-Up statement at the end of the 12th month of your billing cycle. The True-Up statement reconciles all the cumulative energy charges, credits and compensation for the entire 12-month billing cycle. If you have a balance due after all charges and credits are reconciled, that amount will appear on the last PG& E bill of your 12-month billing cycle. By law, any remaining credits will be reset to zero before the beginning of your new 12-month billing cycle.
